Quote #8

"The tax man and the devil share the same address"

-"Before She Does" by Eric Church

This is just a great quote by Eric Church at a very appropriate time in the United States. People are sick and tired of government spending and high taxes, and I think Eric Church really got that a cross in a funny way. It doesn't matter what political ideology you are, Eric Church's words should hit home with everybody. You can hear the lyric around the 44 second mark of the song

Quote #7

"You call this comfortable normal but I call it getting by"

-"Fine Line" by Little Big Town

Fine Line is one of my favorite songs and I think this lyric sums up the song really well. It just shows how two people can have completely different perceptions of a relationship, and while one person may consider it good it may be insufficient for the other person. The embedded version is a great live version of the song. You can hear the lyric at the 50 second mark of the song.

Quote #6

"We were so long on love but short on time"

-"For A Little While" by Tim McGraw

Phil Vassar may be the best songwriter out there and and is a wordsmith when it comes to song lyrics. This song was written for Tim McGraw, and he does a great job performing it. The way this song makes the comparison between love and time is incredible, and I really like the way he used the phrase long on love. You can hear the lyric at the 36 second mark of the song

Quote #5

"Night falls like a hammer on an anvil"

-"Shreveport 2 LA" By Keni Thomas

This is one of my favorite songs and what I consider to possibly be the most underrated country song. This song has a lot strong imagery, and I think this quote exemplifies that. I really like this metaphor because you can just imagine the sun going down and how it's comparable to a hammer hitting an anvil. You can hear the quote at the 15 second mark of the song.

Quote #4

"I watch the sunlight dance across your face and I've never been this swept away"

-"Breathe" by Faith Hill

I really like the imagery of this quote. It makes you think of seeing someone you love with the reflecting of the sun on their face which makes this quote very lyrical. You can hear the lyric at the 36 second mark.

Quote #3

"If you're gonna keep fishing in a pool of shallow water, you can't give the fish all the blame"

-"Hello" by Julianne Hough

This is a great quote from Julianne Hough that touches on relationships. You can't keep going after the same kind of guys or girls that you know are bad for you or it becomes your fault, not the other persons. I think Julianne Hough expresses that in a funny way in this song when she compares dating it to fishing. You can hear the lyric at the 1:25 mark of the song.

Quote #2

"I've read somewhere statistics show the man's always the first to go and that makes sense 'cause I know she won't be ready"

"Waiting On a Woman" by Brad Paisley

This is a great quote by Brad Paisley putting a funny and positive spin on death. It's impressive the way he takes the notion that women are always late and equates that to dying. Brad always has a way of making serious topics funny and this is one of my favorite quotes. The video also features Andy Griffith. You can hear the lyric at the 3:38 mark of the song

Quote #1

"Down and Out is Overrated"

"Lift Me Up" by Kate Voegele

This quote touches on the common theme of never giving up and I really like the lyric because it is applicable to any situation. I personally use this lyric as my rallying cry when it looks like the Utah Jazz(my favorite NBA team) is being doubted. You can listen to the lyric at the 2:54 mark of the song

Introduction

Hi, my name is Mark Cunningham and this blog is based on my love of music lyrics. About a year ago I started writing certain lines from songs that I really liked in a notebook. Most of the lyrics are from current day country songs, but they also range from REO Speedwagon to Bruce Springsteen to the Backstreet Boys. The whole point of this blog is to inform people through song lyrics, it doesn't matter who sings a song, all that matters is the force behind the lyrics. Lyrics can inspiration, comedic, or sad, but they can really touch a person. So what I am planning to do is put a certain lyric from a song everyday as well as the youtube video to that song. I'd love to know what you think of the lyrics so I encourage you to participate in discussion about the lyrics. I look forward to this and I hope you guys like it.

Sincerely,
Mark
